As a child, despite my most concerted efforts, I couldn’t get my friends and family to recognize my half-birthday. I’d give them weeks notice, draft a thoughtful gift wishlist, and suggest creative, budget-friendly party themes. And, yet, each February 8 came and went with zero pomp and circumstance.
It seems that Miss Mardi Gras has had much better luck attracting the masses to celebrate her half-birthday. This Saturday, August 25, marks the midway point to Mardi Gras madness, and most of Soulard is joining forces for this pub-crawl of sorts.
Kicking off in Soulard Market Plaza at 11 a.m. and going until 5 p.m., the event features most establishments in the storied St. Louis neighborhood offering merry-makers drink specials, which revolve heavily around Southern Comfort.
Most haunts offer $4-$5 SoCo-based drink specials, but some are also offering food to sop up the booze: O’Kelleys (half-off pizzas and 50-cent wings), Soulard Coffee Garden ($5 andouille hash) and Sassy Jac’s ($4 fried pickels).
Be sure to stop by Soulard’s Restaurant and visit my very favorite bartender, Tammy (pictured at right), who will be slinging $5 SoCo Hurricanes all day long.
If the booze isn’t enough to tempt you, consider the prizes to be won: Four tickets to Toby Keith, free Cards tickets against the Mets and VIP package with party tent tickets, and a hotel for 2013 Mardi Gras.
