Stefene already dismissed the comic relief coming our way from our friends at Forbes, but I couldn't help but send a low-effort laugh that publication's way this past weekend, which began with a squeeze-close-to-the-bar Happy Hour at Modesto Friday evening ($1 and under nibbles; cheap sangria by the pitcher), followed by a friend's wall-to-wall-packed exhibition opening at Hoffman LaChance (where we ran into old workmates and freelancers and drank complimentary microbrew brewed down the street), then walked a few steps south for a round of drinks at the newish Deluxe (live rockabilly tunes), then the next day had one of the best lunches in recently memory at the highly cool, eco-friendly Pi -- wait, that's the Decembrists playing on the restaurant's system -- better head across the street to pick up tickets for their upcoming St. Louis show -- Sweet, with that done, we should hit a movie a few neighbhoords west ... Okay, officially Slumdog'd, we can now watch the Oscars ... but before that, and before even heading home, we should catch that show at White Flag that's closing on Sunday, which we do, and then, damn, it's late-afternoon on Saturday, meaning the weekend's only half over, but when, Forbes, when, I say -- when will I find time to be miserable? -- Stephen Schenkenberg
