Neon Memes • Books, magazines, comic books and miscellaneous other documents pack my bungalow. The medium of this message notwithstanding, my life revolves around ink on paper. It should thus come as no surprise that I regularly visit the Clayton World News (4 S. Central, 314.726.6010). "Mornin', Kath," I usually mumble on entering. "Hey, Sue." (On my visits, sisters Sue Selvidge and Kathy Neal generally staff the newsstand, either solo or together.) Then I reconnoiter the inverted L that World News devotes to periodicals, sometimes seeking the latest issue of this or that―no, not that "that," and don't you be tellin' my mama I even think about such stuff!―but more often than not seeking instead something new and different in a form the most clueless and amusing members of the digerati have dismissed as old and decrepit. And you know what? Rarely do Sue and Kath and World News disappoint me―rarely do I leave the store without 20 or 30 bucks' worth of ink-on-paper cerebral "refresh." ―Bryan A.
