After months spent wondering what will happen to the area around Ballpark Village, there's finally news.
Yesterday, the St. Louis Business Journal reported that a temporary Nike store is coming to the former bowling museum. It reportedly should be open in time for the All-Star Game, July 14.
And where to wear those new Nikes? The nearby Ballpark Village Softball Field will soon offer one option—for a price.
When finished, the facilities will include a home-plate backstop, covered dugouts, a portable outfield fence, limited bleacher seating, restrooms—plus complimentary parking in the adjoining lot on non-game days, as well as the option of a catering service. (Outside food or beverage is prohibited).
Using the softball field will cost $250 on game day for two hours, or $500 on non-game days. (Nonprofits get a discount). The Redbirds will even throw in several cases of soda, beer, and water.
The field will be available from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on non-game days and until 30 minutes prior to any home game, according to the Cardinals.
Kevin Owen, manager of special events, says some local businesses have already made reservations.
