Benton Park is fast gaining popularity for its beautiful architecture, impossibly hip artistic scene, and small-but-stellar drinking and dining scene. But a little-known fact is that it's haunted. I kid, but its history is rather spooky.
Anyone who's toured Lemp Mansion knows it's not a place you want to while away an evening alone sans electricity. What's creepier is that on old maps, there was a Benton Park cemetery. Today there is no cemetery. No one knows what happened to it.
So given its haunting history, it's fitting that St. Louis' scariest haunted house is located at the old Lemp Brewery. If being housed in an antiquated, abandoned mega building isn't scary enough, the fact that it's located underground should be.
Upon entering, you'll descend five stories to underground caves and caverns and make your way through the maze of terrifying scares. And you'll likely run into a few real ghosts too—it is the second scariest haunted house in America after all.
The Lemp Brewery is open every night through Halloween. For the truly hardcore, it will reopen its doors Saturday, Nov. 5 for a completely lights-out event: "No lights, no help, no mercy."
After having the "bleep" scared out of you, you'll definitely need a stiff drink. Simply stagger across the street to The Stable or O'Malley's to guzzle down some liquid courage.
