While we cover the environment and sustainability in some way every three or four issues, our January 2008 issue featured a 29-page cover package on the subject. The articles included:
- "Green Giants: Meet the individuals, businesses and organizations that are doing the most to sustain our city -- and our planet" by the SLM staff
- "20 Cool Ways to Help Stop Global Warming: Think being eco-friendly means losing your style, your pleasures, your life? Think again" by Maud Kelly
- "Why So Green? This 1,875-square-foot EcoUrban display home, at 3140 Pennsylvania in Benton Park West, is one of a handful of U.S. houses to earn LEED for Homes Platinum certification. Here's how the small St. Louis company did it" by Stephen Schenkenberg (not online, but peek via EcoUrban)
- "Luddite's Delight: No car ... no TV ... beer ... 30 days. How one writer survived a month of treading lightly on the earth" by Stefene Russell
That last piece -- the web version is much longer than the print -- remains one of the staff's favorite essays we've published in recent years. If you haven't read it, it makes for fun Earth Day reading (if a day late). -- Stephen Schenkenberg
