The recent brainchild of Gurpreet Padda and Ami Grimes, the dynamic duo you can thank for Sanctuaria, Cafe Ventana and Chuy Arzola's, offers "spirits and sustenance" with a Mexican flare. Those who miss the recently closed El Borracho will find solace in this Mexican-street-vendor-concept cantina which opens today at 4 p.m.
Diablitos (3761 Laclede Ave., 314-644-4430, www.diablitoscantina.com), which has a distinct Dia de los Muertos feel, touts house-infused tequilas, traditional margaritas, horchatas—as well as beer and wine. And let's not forget about the sustenance, which you'll need to sop up all that Mexican moonshine. This cantina has no shortage of delectable offerings: fajitas, enchiladas, and chili con queso.
Tequila nerds will be able to take Tequila 101 classes, which are based on hands-on, or rather lips-on, learning and taste their way to expertise. The hangover that ensues after that class might make you forget everything you learned. But fear not, one of the best cures for a banging head is a Mexican breakfast, which Diablitos will soon be serving. You'll be able to cure your ills with egg-filled empanadas with chiles and chorizo, traditional pastries and Mexican hot chocolate.
According to their Facebook page, if you visit tonight and tell the bartender you're twitter-stalking @Diablitoscantin, you'll get a free margarita.
