The unthinkable tragedy earlier this week at the Boston Marathon has affected us all, whether we have a personal connection to it or not. Although St. Louis is a long way from Boston, our city has several connections to that day and the aftermath. Here are a few, by the numbers (which should be considered estimates, based on the online race results):
75: Number of St. Louisans in the Boston Marathon. You can find the full list here.
50: Number of St. Louisans who finished the race.
11: Number of St. Louisans who weren’t able to finish the race.
12: Number of St. Louisans who finished within 15 minutes of the explosions.
1: Number of St. Louiansans who crossed the finish line at the exact moment of the first explosion. Howard Mayes, of St. Charles, crossed the finish line just as the first bomb went off. Read more about him here.
$100: Amount former Rams and current Patriots receiver Danny Amendola has pledged to donate for every pass he catches next season to “whatever Boston Marathon Relief Fund there is.” He added he would donate $200 per dropped pass.
9: Runners from the team representing Fleet Feet Sports of St. Louis who are accounted for and uninjured. Read more here. There have been no reports that any St. Louis runners were injured.
