When spring hits, the city begins to swell with pride. Locals seem to beam and celebrate all things St. Louis: baseball, local bites, and beer. But with Busch now being half Belgian, other neighborhood breweries are getting more attention.
The Stable in Benton Park exudes haunting, old St. Louis charm and got its name because it was once a horse stable for the nearby Lemp Brewery.
Both a micro-distillery and brew pub, The Stable offers its own brews (traditional German lager style) as well as craft beers from around the world. And with their 36 rotating taps, you’ll always have something new to try.
The décor is impressive and quirky: lined with dark wood it boasts an eight-foot chandelier, large picture windows for a view of the on-site distillery, and a skeleton, perched high above the bar.
Lager lovers will enjoy Beer Bingo every Wednesday night. And for a twist on Sunday brunch, The Stable has a knee-slappin’ Blue Grass Brunch with a great band.
Known for its beer-boasting rights, the Stable also throws down some great grub: gourmet without being highfalutin'. The pizza and grinders rate high, as does the, um, basket of bacon, which comes in “regular” or “candied”.
In addition to beer, they also brew 85 Lashes rum, spicy in both taste and presentation; the label sports a buccaneer babe with a whip standing on a pile of skulls.
The Stable is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. until 1 a.m., and opens at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday. Monday, you’re outta luck.
