North St. Louis Children Are Getting Help
Zip codes 63106 and 63107 in north St. Louis can be tough places to live, especially for kids. In fact, children in this area are nearly twice as likely to be born to teen mothers as the national average, while also having low rates of prenatal care. Crime, poverty, substance abuse, and parental incarceration rates are also high. To help kids in the area, a $4.2 million grant from Project LAUNCH was awarded to help children under 8. Former Parents as Teachers International director Sue Stepleton sponsored the grant application and will lead a child wellness council to oversee implementation of the program. The money will provide screening of kids for health, developmental, and behavioral issues, and families will be offered services and home visits. Click HERE for more info.

St. Louis Is a Finalist for the 2016 Olympic Swim Trials
Even though it's unlikely the Olympics will ever be hosted in St. Louis again, we're now in the running to host some of the excitement with the 2016 Olympic swim trials. Last month, the St. Louis Sports Commission submitted a proposal that included the installation of two temporary Olympic-sized swimming pools in the Edward Jones Dome, and earlier this week, the U.S. Olympic Committee announced St. Louis as one of the six finalist cities to host the event. A decision is expected to be made at the end of April.

We're a Top "Sleeper" City
Although we all know about the many things that make St. Louis a great place to live and visit, the rest of the country seems to be in the dark. But that may change. Last week, Fox News included St. Louis as one of its top "sleeper" cities in the country, citing affordable flights and hotels, free attractions, concert venues, the Delmar Loop, breweries, and more. Now the rest of the country might start to see why we love this city!
