MICDS, a college-prep, independent school, offers a challenging education that balances academics, athletics, arts, and activities for students in junior kindergarten (age 4) through the 12th grade. The school’s mission is to help students discover their unique talents, preparing them for higher education and a life of purpose and service as engaged citizens of an ever-changing world.
Small class sizes create a spirit of community and intellectual exchange. Because the school spans early childhood through the 12th grade, careful articulation of the curricular and co-curricular experiences allow students to develop the habits of heart and mind at the core of the mission and beliefs of MICDS.
The school’s forward-thinking technology platform, including a one-to-one program starting in the fifth grade, facilitates the development and execution of a rigorous and innovative curriculum allowing faculty to further differentiate and individualize instruction.
A comprehensive, four-year college counseling program distinguishes MICDS from other schools. Each ninth-grade family is paired with a college counselor to work with throughout the four years of Upper School.
This spring, a state-of-the-art, 86,000-square-foot Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) building will be completed to ensure all MICDS students develop strong competencies in these critical disciplines. This addition to the campus will be the most advanced STEM building in the region. And, the building itself will be a teaching tool, featuring design elements that aspire to meet the qualifications for the highest LEED™ certification offered by the U.S. Green Building Council, including 100 kW photovoltaic panels across the roof that convert sunlight into energy, a storm-water filtration system, energy-efficient HVAC systems, and more.
The building will transform the education landscape of MICDS and is the latest testament of the school’s commitment to preparing many of the brightest young minds in St. Louis to be confident and competent leaders in the global world.
