What's New in Education
Developing its remote learning program for last spring’s stay-at-home orders allowed De Smet Jesuit to reimagine school. The program was built around De Smet Jesuit’s existing technology infrastructure, including a 1:1 laptop program, a cloud-based academic platform (OnCampus), and universal access to a full suite of Microsoft products.
Faculty spent a week in July immersed in training informed by their experiences with remote learning in the spring, deepening their expertise in Microsoft Teams, and working to adapt curriculum.
De Smet Jesuit is currently offering in-person and remote learning simultaneously. The realities of life during a pandemic have made faculty even more cognizant of the impact of trauma-informed teaching, culturally responsive teaching, executive functioning skills, and building community.
The school has also provided formation experiences that are central to its Jesuit mission, including daily Mass and Formation Fridays for each class to build brotherhood through service, prayer, and recreation.
