More radiant than jewels are the preserved toys of our youth. Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear at Retro TV Toys, a new shop specializing in vintage, nostalgic toys.
Proprietor Matt Ruskin (a veteran seller at the bedazzling bimonthly ToyMan Toy Show) grew up in the ‘80s. He has a weakness for the likes of Transformers, ThunderCats, He-Man, G.I. Joe and Star Wars.
His new store, which opened last month in Dutchtown, offers items that vary according to what he buys from other collectors and dealers, he said. Right now, the displays house an impressive phalanx of G.I. Joe figurines, vehicles and playsets (from the ‘80s-revival era, with the 3.75” figurines).
You are welcome to purchase these 30-year-old toys and re-enact the battles of youth on your living-room floor—or to keep them on a high shelf, where your kids can’t mess with them.
Retro TV Toys, 3304 Meramec, 314-669-9119. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
