“For God's sake, let us sit upon the ground,” recites King Richard II in Shakespeare's play. And that's exactly what you’ll be invited to do at this year’s Shake 38 celebration.
On Wednesday April 22 at 7:15 a.m. grab your mat and head to the Missouri Botanical Garden for a morning of yoga, complemented by readings from Richard II.
You might hear Sir Stephen Scroop exclaim “More health and happiness betide my liege!” while you acquire your om—and soak in the lyrical and physical composition of the bard's work.
Hosted by Shakespeare Festival St. Louis, the event will kick-off a five-day celebration of Shakespeare’s 38-play canon and is free to all.
More Shake 38 events will follow all week, including a Midsummer Night’s Dream-inspired fashion shoot and an improv performance of Much Ado About Nothing.
So invite a fellow Shakespeare or yoga enthusiast and meet at the Cohen Amphitheater for an hour of theatrically inspired vinyasa. And should you manage the proper deep, slow exhalation, remember: “Such is the breath of kings.”
