Recently, the League of American Bicyclists recognized several St. Louis business with bicycle-friendly designations. Trailnet was recognized as a platinum bicycle-friendly business, one of only 16 businesses nationally to receive platinum status. Other local companies Spoked Couriers, Saint Louis Zoo, Wells Fargo Advisors, Microgrid Energy were also new additions.
Attributes of a bicycle-friendly business, according to the League of American Bicyclists, include encouraging employees to bike to work; offering education on safety, skills, and maintenance; bike parking; planning bicycling events; and more.
Trailnet was especially recognized for its TravelGreen and Shift Your Commute programs, which seek to increase the number of bicycle-friendly businesses and commuters in the area. Earlier this year, Spoked Couriers, Saint Louis Zoo, Wells Fargo Advisors, and Microgrid Energy attended the "Trailnet on Tap: The Business of Biking" event to learn how to apply and meet the requirements for the bicycle-friendly business status.
Taylor March, director of Alternative Transportation Efforts at Microgrid, said, "When our employees bike, great things happen: we become an attractive business for millennials, helping to retain our young and talented workforce; we decrease our carbon footprint while reducing healthcare costs; and we’re able to connect to our community while creating a fun and healthy work culture.”
The complete list of local bicycle-friendly businesses now includes the aforementioned companies along with REI-St. Louis, Big Shark Bicycle Company, Bike Stop Café, Urban Eats Cafe, and Velocity Cafe Cyclery.
