The local nonprofit GO! St. Louis is giving runners some exciting new running fodder. The group that specializes in presenting fitness events and programs year-round announced a new event in their annual lineup. The GO! St. Louis Run at the Raceway is scheduled for August 19 and will take place at Gateway Motorsports Park.
This event will feature a 5k run/walk around Gateway’s 1.25 oval, a one-mile time trial that will run the length of the drag strip, a fun run, and beer relay. The run will take place in the evening at dusk under the lights of the race track. Participants will receive an event shirt and finisher’s medal.
Runners also need to know that the 2017 Marathon and Family Fitness Weekend race site has changed. The event set for April 8 and 9 will now start and finish at the St. Louis Riverfront next to the Gateway Arch.
Previous marathon weekends have been located at Soldier’s Memorial, but this year GO! St. Louis chose the Riverfront because it emphasizes the St. Louis skyline. The Riverfront will be host to the marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, and the Mississippi 7K.
“We can’t think of a better finish-line photo to give our participants than in front of these iconic St. Louis landmarks—the Gateway Arch and St. Louis Riverfront,” says GO! St. Louis representative Frank Hopper.
