Reports of dogs dying after being exposed to cyanobacteria, commonly referred to as blue-green algae, have had many pet owners on high alert. Locally, a woman posted her concern and photos on the Lincoln County MO Lost and Found Animals Facebook page that a lake in Indian Camp Creek (a park located along U.S. Highway 61, between Wentzville, Missouri, and Troy, Missouri) had the toxic algae.

Her concern has prompted the St. Charles County Parks Department to close the lake late afternoon on August 21 to test the water for blue-green algae. The department staff took samples of the water to send to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the University of Missouri Extension for further testing, but a preliminary review of the samples gathered show that the lake does not possess blue-green algae, the department told SLM in a statement.
The lake will remain closed until the department receives official test results, which might take as long as a week. This closure does not affect the park or the park's creek.
The department urges park visitors to report any issue to the Park Ranger Duty Phone at 314-713-4394.
