Stone Soup Hike | January 1
Sierra Club Sangamon Valley Group’s event looks worth the 90-minute drive from St. Louis. Bring an ingredient for one of the two communal soup bowls (meat and veg), as well as a bowl and spoon. St. Louis Skater of the Year Awards | January 1
The hardest-working skateboarders in St. Louis are feted on the first day of the year. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a free skate, followed by skate games and a halftime show with Nikee Turbo and Bigbank E Pheezy, awards at 9:30 p.m., live performances of the best tricks at 10 p.m., more free skating at 11 p.m., and a shuttle bus to the afterparty if you still have gas in the tank. $8.
