The American Cancer Society estimates that about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer during their lifetimes, and in 2014, about 232,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women. Show your support for the women you know who have been touched by the disease at these local events for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
1. Wear pink at the rink. Check out Gateway to Hope's annual Pink at the Rink Awareness night on October 11 at Scottrade Center when the Blues play the Calgary Flames. The event benefits Gateway to Hope and Susan G. Komen St. Louis. Click HERE for more info.
2. Shop for a cause. During the month of October, visit the on-site Information Center at St. Louis Premium Outlets to donate $10 to support Susan G. Komen St. Louis and receive 25 percent off one item from select stores.
3. Walk in support. The Race for the Cure brought out thousands of participants earlier this year, and this month, another walk will take place on October 25 in Forest Park. The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is a 5K, noncompetitive walk that unites the St. Louis community to honor breast cancer survivors, educates people about steps they can take to reduce their risk or find breast cancer early, and raises funds to help end this disease.
4. Treat yourself. Visit the Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis Salon and Spa to purchase a BABOR Breast Cancer Awareness Month Travel Set, and five percent of your total purchase will be donated to Susan G. Komen St. Louis.
5. Get a mammogram. The best way you can show your support is to get yourself checked. For a more convenient experience, Siteman Cancer Center's Mammography Van will be making stops throughout the month at the South City Family YMCA and several Schnucks locations.
