Blueberries
Blueberries are low in fat and high in other health benefits. They’re bursting with manganese, which strengthens bones. Blueberries are also a source of Vitamin C, which benefits heart and immune health, dietary fiber, and cholesterol levels.
Arugula
Summers in St. Louis can be brutal, but there’s one vegetable that offers an unexpected way to stay hydrated. Made of 90 percent water, arugula will keep you feeling refreshed as you shop. And if you want to serve salad at a cookout, consider arugula, which contains nearly eight times more calcium than standard iceberg lettuce.
Blackberries
Blackberries are low in calories and low sodium, making them a perfect healthy snack. Their dark color is a sign of high antioxidant levels, thought to lower risk for certain cancers. They also promote a healthy tightening of tissue, which is great for preventing future wrinkles.
Cucumbers
This farmers' market find will give you a healthy serving of potassium, which aids in the development of muscle tissue, the function of the heart, and the regulation of blood pressure. And like arugula, cucumbers are full of H20, helping you beat the heat.
Peaches
With 10 different vitamins in each peach, this fruit make the list of go-to summer snacks. They’re chock-full of Vitamin A, which promotes healthy vision. A peach contains about three grams of fiber (a benefit to digestive health) and averages fewer than 70 calories. The fruit's in season now through the end of August, so pick up a few extra on your next trip to the market.
