Want to find out if you're at risk for heart disease? Check out the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health Fair and Luncheon, a free event taking place tomorrow, January 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sheraton St. Louis City Center (400 S. 14th, 314-692-5642). The goal of the event, sponsored by Express Scripts, is to increase awareness of risk factors and warning signs of heart disease and stroke among the African-American community, who are at a disproportionate risk for the disease due to risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and previous heart attack and stroke.
Guests will be given a heart-healthy lunch and will hear from educational speakers, including special musical guest Brian Courtney Wilson, along with a health fair that will feature screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, HIV/AIDS, dental, and BMI; CPR demonstrations; and local physicians on-hand to answer questions.
