Happy National Wear Red Day! Today marks an annual day for the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign in which women (and men) around the world are raising awareness for heart health and heart disease education. In addition, the month of February marks American Heart month. According to the campaign, heart disease kills more women annually than all cancers combined. This weekend, there will be multiple heart health and heart screening events around St. Louis.
A couple weeks ago, we mentioned Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Heart & Vascular Center's free "Heart Health and High Style" event on February 4, which will feature blood pressure screenings, "ask the expert" booths, a light lunch, speakers on heart disease, and a style tips seminar. Also on February 4, Go Red For Women will kick off the search for the next Go Red Women at the St. Louis Go Red CONNECT event at Macy’s West County on from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Women who share their stories have the chance to become a spokesperson for the cause, representing Go Red For Women in marketing materials, at events, and on its web site.
Lastly, Missouri Baptist Medical Center will host a "Heart of the Family" event on February 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring free health screenings, speakers, kid's activities, nutrition demonstrations, and tours of the hospital's health center. Click here for more info.
