Eli loves trucks. He goes into a toddler frenzy when the UPS man swings by their house with a delivery. His mother, Ashley, says without reservation that he is “obsessed.” So when she asked if he wanted to be one of those guys in the brown uniforms for Halloween, he screamed and yelled with excitement. Luckily, they had just moved a few months before so they still had an oversized U-Haul box. She cut it to fit on top of Eli’s red Radio Flyer. “He was only 2 at the time and he couldn’t walk very long,” Ashley says. She found the uniform on Amazon—“otherwise I would have had to get very creative.” In the picture, Eli is heading to the Trunk or Treat at the St. John Lutheran Church & School in Ellisville. “The whole parking lot was filled with cars, and everyone loved his,” she says. “At one point, he was pulling it himself instead of riding in it.” This year, Ashley says they are planning to create a construction truck—for Eli, who’ll don a hard hat. “We shall see,” she says, clearly wary. “Construction trucks are a little more difficult.”
