The sunlight during springtime has been inspiring artists for centuries. Watch as artists complete their works in plein air, or outdoors, near the Missouri River bluffs, and catch a variety of workshops and events. April 21–May 1. Events begin daily at 8 a.m.
April 23: 2016 St. Louis Teen Talent Competition Final Round
Fabulous Fox Theatre
The top acts come together for the last round of competition, with thousands of dollars of scholarship money at stake. Singers, dancers, and musicians fill the gorgeous hall with artistry. Tickets are free online and at the box office, but they might sell out so act quickly. 7 p.m. Free. Fox Theatre, 527 N. Grand.
April 23: World Penguin Day
Saint Louis Zoo
What it is about penguins that’s so universally endearing? Our guess is it’s the tuxedos that they’re always wearing. Head to the zoo’s Penguin & Puffin Coast to celebrate the day and learn about these fascinating birds. 1–3 p.m. Saint Louis Zoo, 1 Government.
April 23 & 24: Country Craft Fair at Historic Sappington House
1015 S. Sappington
Step back into the early 1800s at Sappington House, where you'll find antiques, crafts, and jewelry. During the fair, you can also see demonstrations of such lost arts as basket-weaving, nut-cracking, and rag rug-making. The restaurant will offer victuals from the porch, and music will keep things lively. Free. 9 a.m.–3 p.m. 1015 S. Sappington.
April 24: St. Louis County Library Foundation presents Andy Griffiths
St. Louis County Library Headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh
If there’s a Ninja Snail Training Academy at your house, then you’re familiar with the wild world of Australian author Andy Griffiths. He’ll be on hand this weekend to regale young readers with tales from The 52-Story Treehouse, in addition to signing books. 4 p.m. St. Louis County Library Headquarters Auditorium.
