With Halloween hogging much of the October spotlight, we've highlighted this month's other family fun outings. This month we can watch a movie under the Union Station train shed, celebrate the Magic House’s 40th birthday and watch Peppa Pig and Baby Shark take the stage.
Movie at the Wheel Park | Weekends in October
The St. Louis Wheel is now open! Celebrate with a free showing of Meet Me in St. Louis at Union Station's Wheel Park, every Friday and Saturday night. Gather around the fire pits and watch the free light show over the lake. Make sure you leave time to ride the wheel and have a Freak Shake at the Soda Fountain. Free movie at 7 p.m. Union Station, 201 S. 18th.
Kiener Kids | October 5
Fun and games under the Arch. Meet at Kiener Plaza for a kid-sized Yoga class, then delight in storytellers and a magician. Kids can play oversized lawn games and make custom buttons. The first 100 kids to register online will receive a Kiener Kid goodie bag. Free. 9 a.m. Kiener Plaza Park, 500 Chestnut.
Happy Birthday, Magic House | October 13
Our favorite play spot turns the big 4-0 this month! Celebrate with face painting, jugglers, a special photo booth, and more. Included with admission. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Magic House, 516 S. Kirkwood.
Arch Bark | October 12
Bring your pups to the Arch grounds for Paws on the Pavement one-mile fun walk. The first 1000 people to register online will get a doggie swag bag. Live music, photo ops, plus an agility course for dogs to try. Dogs must be on a 6-foot or shorter leash. Free. North end of the Gateway Arch Park, near the Eads Bridge.
Third Friday at Third Degree | October 18
It’s time to get fired up—Third Degree is celebrating October and their 17th birthday with an open house. There will be pumpkin-themed glass blowing demos, fire performers and food trucks. All visitors can sign up to make a craft: people over 10 can make a paperweight or beads, kids over 6 can make a fused glass bug or charm that will be fired at a later date. Projects are $35, first come first serve. Free admission. Third Degree, 5200 Delmar.
Great Grilled Cheese Off | October 19
Are your kids expert grilled cheese tasters? Let them declare the best Grilled Cheese in the city at this quirky food festival. Eight local restaurants will compete. The fun includes family activities, crafts, and a petting zoo. Tickets are $25 for adults (includes samples, tomato soup, and a Schlafly beer), kids under 12 only need to pay for their samples. Noon to 6 p.m. Forest Park Visitors Center.
Peppa Pig Live | October 20
Peppa Pig is bringing a whole new live show. Your little ones will be amazed as life-size puppets and costume character takes the stage for an awesome camping trip full of singing and dance. Tickets start at $22. Stifel Theatre,1400 Market.
Baby Shark Live | October 26
Can’t get enough Baby Shark? Little kids will love watching Baby Shark and friends as they sing and dance through the greatest hits of the nursery: Baby Shark, Five Little Monkeys and the Wheels on the Bus. Parents can treat their kids to a limited Meet and Greet with Baby Shark for an additional purchase. Tickets start at $29.50. Stifel Theatre, 1400 Market.
