February 9–11: Morpho Mardi Gras at the Butterfly House
Take a break from winter while celebrating Mardi Gras with 1,500 big, beautiful Blue Morpho butterflies. The Butterfly House will be decked out for Mardi Gras this weekend with a "bug parade," and kids can make their own masquerade mask. Included with admission. February 9–11: Bud, Not Buddy
Watch a family friendly jazz-infused play based on a Newbery Medal-winning novel. The story follows Bud, a 10-year-old boy in 1930's American searching for his father, a traveling jazz musician. The play combines talented actors with a 13-piece band and a guest appearance by jazz legend Terance Blanchard. Runs through February 25 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $16 for students, military, and seniors; $20 for adults. Grandel Theatre, 3610 Grandel Square.
February 10–11: Peter Rabbit Party
To celebrate the release of the new Peter Rabbit movie, based on Beatrix Potter's classic story about the titular rabbit, Ronnie's Cinema is throwing a free party. February 11: Sensory Friendly Sunday at City Museum
This Sunday is a special "sensory friendly" day at the world's most fun museum. There will be reduced noise and lighting, a designated quiet area, and hands-on experiences tailored for kids with sensory processing differences. Plus, 10 percent of all tickets sales for the day will be donated to Autism Speaks. Included with regular admission. 11 a.m.–5 p.m. City Museum, 750 N. 16th.
February 11: Free Family Day at Laumeier Sculpture Park
Explore nature and sculptures outside at Laumeier, then head indoors to create your own works of art. Families can work together on a variety of projects simple enough for kids over 4, but can be made more complex for advanced artists.
