February 16–18: 2018 Annual Gem, Jewelry, Rock, Mineral, and Fossil Show
Does your child have a rock collection? Here's a chance to add some low-cost dazzle to your kids' pile of shiny agates and quartz. Check out tumbled rocks, loose beads, fossils, meteorites, and more. Admission is $3 for adults, and kids under 12 are free. Friday 4–9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Kirkwood Community Center, 111 S. Geyer.
February 17–18: The Story Pirates at COCA
The Story Pirates "celebrate the words and ideas of young people" through wild sketch comedy musicals. The cast of The Story Pirates are some of the best improvisers in the country, from such lauded organizations as Upright Citizens Brigade, Second City, and the Groundlings. They will bring their young audience's imagination to life. Tickets are $18. For kids 4 and up. Washington University’s 560 Music Center, located across the street from COCA, 560 Trinity.
February 17: Great Green Adventures: Marvelous Mediterranean at the Missouri Botanical Garden
Travel to the Mediterranean without leaving St. Louis this Saturday at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Kids will take a guided tour of the Temperate House and learn about flowers and trees from the Mediterranean. There will be hands-on activities, stories, and games. Activities are designed for kids from ages 6 to 12. $3 per child with garden admission. No RSVP required. Sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Missouri Botanical Garden, 4344 Shaw.
February 17: Big Eyes, Big Minds International Children's Film Festival of St. Louis
The Saint Louis Zoo invites your family to see the best films to educate, enrich, and inspire kids. Sessions are aged-based: 10:30 a.m. films are for kids 1 and up; 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. films for kids 6 and up. There will be film-related activities and crafts after each screening. Read more about the festival in our preview story. Tickets available online and at the door. $9 per person, $1 discount for members. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. February 17: Chinese New Year at the Magic House
Celebrate the Year of the Dog with a festival of fun. At the Magic House, kids can enjoy a Lion Dance performance, Kung Fu lessons and demonstrations, and Chinese face painting. Included with regular admission. 10 a.m.–2 p.m. The Magic House, 516 S. Kirkwood Road.
