December 28–January 1: National Parks in Quilts Exhibit
Visit the Old Courthouse to see the wonders of our national parks—in quilts. The 13-piece traveling art show, which celebrates the National Park Service's centennial will be on display in the Rotunda. A special quilt honoring President Ulysses S. Grant will also be on display. There will be hands-on quilting demonstrations on Friday and Saturday. Free. 11 N. Fourth.
December 28–January 1: Facebook VR Roadshow
Facebook visits the Saint Louis Galleria to show demonstrate virtual reality. Check out Gear VR, and make a virtual GIF in a VR headset. Free. Through January 5. 1155 Saint Louis Galleria.
December 31–January 1: Keeper Chats
Learn about the lives, diets, and habitats of eagles, falcons, vultures, hawks, and chickens that live at the World Bird Sanctuary. (Note: There's a construction detour for northbound Highway 141.) Free. 125 Bald Eagle Ridge.
January 1: First Day Hikes
Take your mother out for a stroll in Mother Nature. Babler State Park is one of hundreds of state parks nationwide hosting a First Day Hike program. Meet at the Alta Shelter parking lot for a 1-and-1/8-mile hike on Hawthorne Trail. Bring water, and wear your walking shoes. Free. 800 Guy Park.
January 1: Kwanzaa Mask and Masquerade
The Saint Louis Art Museum hosts an afternoon of fun activities for Kwanzaa. There will be hands-on activities for kids, a scavenger hunt, and drumming and dance performances in Farrell Auditorium. RSVP recommended for tickets. Noon–4 p.m. Free, but tickets required. Forest Park, 1 Fine Arts.
