Look out, Fiona the hippo—St. Louis' Zoo stars, the record-breaking litter of cheetah cubs, are in the news again, and this time a "Happy birthday" is in order.
Today marks a year since the Saint Louis Zoo welcomed a whopping eight cheetah cubs, nicknamed the “Bingwa Bunch,” after their mom, Bingwa, at the Zoo's River’s Edge Cheetah Survival Center. (Sorry, Dad—Jason just didn't have the same ring to it.)
The litter of three males and five females, named Moja, Mbili, Tatu, Nne, Tano, Sita, Saba, and Nane, born on November 26, 2017, was pretty special—it was the first time the city's zoo had a cheetah birth this size, as the average litter is only three to four cubs.
Here's a look back at when the cheetahs were just born.
To celebrate the young felines' birthday, the Zoo is hosting a party in honor of International Cheetah Day, at the River's Edge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on December 2. At the event, fans can create cheetah masks and learn more about the creatures and conservation programs from zookeepers.
Bingwa should enjoy this while she can. The terrible twos await.
