It's their shot to see the hottest musical on tour right now.
Today, 3,900 students and teachers get to see a special matinee performance of Hamilton at the Fox Theatre—for just $10 per ticket. The performance is part of the hit musical's education program.
After spending several weeks in their classrooms learning about American history and Alexander Hamilton through a special curriculum, students from 42 area high schools get to experience Hamilton up close. In addition to the performance, the kids will also participate in a Q&A with the cast, as well as perform original work (raps, poetry, monologues, songs) onstage at the Fox.
"Our goal is to ensure that students have a shot to see Hamilton and use its words, music, and staging to further their understanding and enjoyment of American History, music, and drama," Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller said in a release. "We’ve had the pleasure of expanding the education program outside of New York in Los Angeles, Chicago, and other cities around the country."
The education program was created by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, in tandem with Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, Seller, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the New York City Department of Education.
Tickets for the performance were set at $70, but $60 per ticket has been subsidized by the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation and the Steward Family Foundation, so tickets will only cost $10 per student.
