Guests enjoy a Pokemon performance at the historic Chicago Theatre. "Pokémon: Symphonic Evolutions" comes to Powell Hall this weekend, as Anime St. Louis visits the St. Charles Convention Center.
Have you ever played your favorite video game and wondered how awesome the soundtrack would be if it was played by a real live orchestra? Wonder no more. The St. Louis Symphony will give kids a treat by performing music from Pokémon this weekend.
Pokémon: Symphonic Evolutions combines familiar music with exciting game visuals on a giant screen—a great way to introduce children to orchestra music. (Click here for a sneak peek.) The show is approximately 100 minutes long and takes a nostalgic trip through Pokémon's 18-year history.
Expect to find Pokémon fans of all ages at the show, where patrons are welcome to dress as their favorite characters. Arrive early to trade cards in the lobby. (You can also find tips for visiting the symphony at stlsymphony.org, including where to park.)
True Pokémon fans will also want to visit Anime St. Louis, an anime convention at St. Charles Convention Center that celebrates anime, manga, and all things pop culture. It's also a bargain for families: Up to three children under 12 get in free with an adult admission. Meet guests from the anime and gaming world, including voice actors and artists. Local game developer Happy Badger Studio will also be talking to visitors, and Star Wars fans will be excited to check out The 501st Legion cosplayers.
Visit animestl.net to save 20 percent off a symphony concert ticket, and get a special weekend pass discount for the convention.
The symphony performs Pokémon: Symphonic Evolutions on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.; visit stlsymphony.org for more information and tickets. Anime St. Louis runs May 13 through 15; visit animestl.net for details.
