After Buster Keaton signed a contract with MGM he maintained creative control of one last film, The Cameraman (1928). In a sense this was the end of an era, as his loss of creative control wrought disastrous effects on his career.
However, The Cameraman is Keaton at the top of his game and one of his best feature films.
In this film, Buster meets a lovely young woman while working as a tintype creator. He then seeks work at her place of employment, a newsreel agency. In typical Buster fashion, he tumbles and bumbles through a series of fortunes misfortunes as he tries to succeed as a Cameraman and win the heart of his amour.
All ages welcome and encouraged!
“One of Keaton’s most impressively self-reflective films and an ode to the unexpected and elusive lightening-in-a-bottle nature of filmmaking.” -Eric Henderson, Slant Magazine
