Hugh Peanuts Whalumthe man David Sanborn called a five-foot-five gianthas played his saxophone alongside Miles Davis, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald. He played for this honorary benefit at Brandts Cafe, too, and sang, and teamed up for sax-attack duets with his nephew Kirk Whalum. The crowd leaned back, aglow with good jazz and glad their contributions would send St. Louis musicians to college, university or other formal music education. Were not the City of Gabriel for nothin.
