When money was being raised to build Cardinal Glennon Hospital in the late '40s, movie stars, including Maureen O'Hara and Clayton Moore (a.k.a. the Lone Ranger), flew to St. Louis to lend their celebrity cachet to fundraising events. Though there were no movie stars at the hospital's 50th-birthday party at Bellerive Country Club, it was an emotional night of remembrance for those who were part of the hospital from its very beginning. In the course of treating (and delivering) thousands of kids, Cardinal Glennon became one of the pioneers of pediatric medicine.
