March 6, 2013 – St. Louis Magazine has received two finalist nominations in the national City and Regional Magazine Association (CRMA) Awards competition. The award categories include Personality Profile and Ancillary Publication 1 and are for work completed in 2012. The overall winner in each category will be announced at the 37th annual CRMA Conference, May 18–20 in Atlanta, Ga.
In the Personality Profile category, St. Louis Magazine was named a finalist for Jeannette Cooperman’s “Deconstructing Cassilly.” The article, which ran in the January 2012 issue, detailed the life of the late artist Bob Cassilly, founder of City Museum. In this category, St. Louis Magazine will be competing for top honors with 5280’s “Jeanne Assam is Still Waiting,” Philadelphia Magazine’s “Schoolly D is Living the American Dream,” Texas Monthly’s “Portrait of the Artist as a Postman,” and Washingtonian’s “The Passion of John Wojnowski.”
In the Ancillary Publication 1 category, St. Louis Magazine was named a finalist for St. Louis At Home. With each issue, the publication shares new ways that readers can enjoy their homes—whether it’s a penthouse or a South City bungalow—and creative ways to entertain, cook, design, and decorate. In this category, St. Louis At Home will be competing for top honors with Charlotte Magazine for Charlotte Wedding, Honolulu Magazine for Honolulu Family, Martha’s Vineyard for Home & Garden, and Westchester Magazine for 914INC.
Magazine professionals across the country chose 148 finalists representing 35 publications in the 28-year-old competition. Magazines of varying circulation competed in 31 categories, including editorial, design, online, multiplatform storytelling and general excellence. Judges named five finalists in most categories and will choose one ultimate winner in each.
Finalists were selected by more than 90 judges, including representatives from publications such as The Atlantic, Better Homes and Gardens, Bon Appétit, ESPN The Magazine, Esquire, Fast Company, Food Network Magazine, GQ, Ladies’ Home Journal, Men’s Health, National Geographic, New York Magazine, Outside, People, Popular Science, Rolling Stone, Runner’s World, Sports Illustrated, Sunset Magazine, Taste of Home, TIME, and Whole Living, as well as professors from the Missouri School of Journalism. The competition is open to members of CRMA and other city and regional magazines throughout North America that qualify. The national competition has been coordinated by the Missouri School of Journalism on behalf of CRMA for the past 17 years.
