ST. LOUIS, MO – APRIL 12, 2007 – St. Louis Magazine has hired Stephen Schenkenberg, a native St. Louisan, to join its nationally acclaimed editorial staff to become the new editor-in-chief. Schenkenberg has more than a decade’s experience in editing and publications management. He has authored more than 100 articles, reviews, and interviews; edited three books forthcoming from the Wisconsin Historical Society Press; and served as book editor of PLAYBACK:stl and editor of Sigma Chi’s national, award-winning magazine. With Schenkenberg’s arrival, Jeannette Batz Cooperman will step down after two years at the helm, becoming a full-time staff writer for the magazine. Said Batz Cooperman, “After two years sitting at a piled-high desk feeling secretly jealous of our freelancers, I’m eager to be out around the city reporting again, and thrilled that we’ll have such an exceptional editor. I like Stephen’s ideas and vision for the magazine—we all do. I think our readers can expect journalism of the highest quality—as well as high style and a lot of fun—in our pages.” Publisher Leslie Tunney adds, “Our strategic shift in editorial leadership will serve our readers well. Jeannette’s return to writing will keep our pages engaging month after month, and Steve’s fresh perspective will support St. Louis Magazine’s continuing evolution.” Stephen Schenkenberg has also written and edited for the Saint Louis Art Museum, Washington University in St. Louis, New York University, and other institutions. A graduate of Marquette University, Schenkenberg received a master’s degree from Northwestern University and completed the Stanford Professional Publishing Course. “I’m thrilled to be joining the talented writers, editors, and designers of St. Louis Magazine,” he says, “It’s my favorite type of publication—smart, lively, and presented with style—and one to which I’ve been proud to contribute. I look forward to guiding its growth alongside the city’s.” St. Louis Magazine is St. Louis’ premier lifestyle magazine, focusing on all the most interesting people, places, events and trends in the Gateway City. This year marks St. Louis Magazine’s 12th year of publication. The magazine was recently nominated for two national awards by the City and Regional Magazine Association. ### If you’d like more information, please call Meghan Riley at 314-918-3002 or e-mail to mriley@stlmag.com.
