The publishers of St. Louis Magazine, St. Louis AT HOME, and St. Louis Family are pleased to announce the launch of a new cookbook, St. Louis Chefs’ Recipes, edited by Christy Marshall and George Mahe and presented by Lexus. Stunning photography, tasty recipes, and a unique collaboration of local chefs make this cookbook one that belongs on the kitchen counter of anyone who cares about food. The cookbook will be available for purchase beginning September 24.
This beautiful 168-page cookbook features 173 must-try recipes from 81 of the region’s most celebrated chefs, from local restaurants including Annie Gunn’s, Niche, Cardwell’s at the Plaza, The Crossing, Tony’s, Harvest, Agostino’s, Café Osage, Sidney Street Café, Home Wine Kitchen, Cielo, and many more. Lou Rook III (of Annie Gunn’s) created the Top of the Hill Farm Blackberry Crisp featured on the front cover. In addition, four favorite local chefs—Bill Cardwell, Gerard Craft, Jim Fiala, and Lou Rook III—were photographed and featured on the back cover.
“It’s great to go out to dinner at St. Louis’ wonderful restaurants, but it’s even more fun to be able to re-create those meals at home,” says co-editor Christy Marshall. “Whipping it up in your own kitchen will undoubtedly result in a heightened appreciation for the talents of our fabulous chefs. This is a book that every local foodie will want—and want to give.”
The cookbook includes a mix of appetizers, soups and salads, entrées, sides, desserts, drinks, and dishes for breakfast, brunch, and lunch and also profiles several chefs—some in their very own kitchens. Companion Beef Stew from Jodi Allen of Companion Bakery & Café, Bacon Jam from Justin Haifley of The Tavern Kitchen & Bar, Tiramisu from Zoe Pidgeon of I Fratellini, and Parmesan-Crusted Lamb Chops from Vince Bommarito of Tony’s are just some of the recipes that fill the book’s pages.
“Nothing like this has been done recently,” says publisher Leslie Tunney. “This cookbook celebrates the fact that St. Louis’ culinary scene has exploded over the past decade. The book features a wide range of recipes from chefs at the city’s most respected restaurants and some that have been passed down through generations of their families. It’s something we know St. Louisans will treasure.”
Ten percent of the sale of each cookbook will be donated to Operation Food Search. Established in 1981 to tackle the growing problem of hunger, Operation Food Search is a St. Louis-area food bank that distributes food free of charge to feed the poor and hungry.
