The third time was a charm at night three of St. Louis Magazine's annual Food Wine Design Culinary Week. The glimmer and glitz of luxurious cars with a chance to win the perfect wine package offered by Lexus greeted guests, along with wines by Trinchero Family Estates and beer by Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy.
In between the mellow tones of smooth jazz and the pouring of Purus Vodka cocktails created by Jayne Pellegrino of Blood & Sand, diners were treated to tasty hors d'oeuvres. Guests were in awe at the elaborate tabletops designed by Anthropologie from the Saint Louis Galleria, The White Rabbit with Angela and Lindsay Mathey, and Carolyn Peterson Design/Garrison Ltd. with Carolyn Peterson and Garrison Salinas.
Back in the kitchen, Eric Brenner of Alumni St. Louis and Jenny Cleveland and Eric Heath of Cleveland-Heath whipped up delightful dishes at the Gourmet Comfort night of Food Wine Design. The first course of the night was a pickled raw, and shaved asparagus salad with baby beets and hollandaise (superb!), was paired with a Seaglass Sauvignon Blanc. That was soon followed with course two: smoked missouri trout 'roll' served on toasted brioche with watercress, lemon dill dressing and german potato salad, paired with a Folie A Deux Chardonnay and Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. The third course—an amazing combination of salty and tangy—featured a pork duo with a beer and mustardsSauce, brussels sprout kraut, pancetta & cauliflower mac ‘n cheese, and was paired with Ménage à Trois Cabernet Sauvignon. And to top off the perfect meal, Apple Wellington with Brown-Butter Whipped Cream and Caramel Bacon Pecan Brittle was served for dessert.
As the Dawn Turlington Duo played fun renditions of popular songs, the winners of the tabletop competition were announced—Anthropologie took first place for the best tabletop of the evening! Through the live auction and raffle, St. Louis Magazine was able to raise $6,500 for Food Outreach, putting us at a total of $19,200 so far for the week of Food Wine Design and at an impressive 76% to goal ($25,000 ) with two nights to go.
