ST. LOUIS, MO – JUNE 4, 2008 – For the second year in a row, St. Louis Magazine won the silver award in the category of General Excellence II at the 2008 City and Regional Magazine Association conference and award competition. The 23rd Annual National City and Regional Magazine Editorial and Design Magazine Awards competition winners were announced June 2 at the CRMA conference in Memphis, Tenn. This award is for work published in 2007. St. Louis Magazine now holds a total of six National City and Regional Magazine Editorial and Design Awards.
In the General Excellence II category (30,000–60,000 circulation), St. Louis Magazine was nominated along with HOUR Detroit and Seattle Metropolitan. In awarding St. Louis Magazine the silver honor, the judges stated, “St. Louis Magazine offers its readers a strong mix of visual and verbal content that is focused on them. From traditional service pieces to in-depth stories, the magazine has a rhythm and distinctness that is consistent and conversational. Each issue is inviting, and the covers are crafted with strong images and cover blurbs that reflect the individuality of the editorial inside, despite disparity of purpose. Good use of color throughout each issue provides continuity to help define the magazine’s personality. The magazine shows an authoritative understanding of the area it covers. It is as though the editors are saying to the reader: ‘If you consistently read this magazine, you will know what is important to our shared interest, which is St Louis.’”
“We’re celebrating,” says Editor-in-Chief Stephen Schenkenberg. “To be recognized as the second-best city magazine in North America within our broad circulation range is tremendously gratifying. And because the General Excellence category is a cover-to-cover assessment, this is an honor for everyone involved—our publisher, our editorial and art staff, and our contributing writers, photographers and illustrators. We’re pleased to have given all St. Louisans another reason to be proud of our city.”
To date, St. Louis Magazine holds six National City and Regional Magazine Editorial and Design Awards. For work completed in 2007, St. Louis Magazine won the silver in the General Excellence II category. For work completed in 2006, St. Louis Magazine won the silver in the General Excellence II category and the bronze in the Leisure/Lifestyle Interest category, and St. Louis Magazine’s AT HOME won the gold in the Ancillary Publication I category. For work completed in 2004, St. Louis Magazine won the bronze in the Excellence Online category and the bronze in the General Excellence I category.
“We are delighted and honored at this recognition,” says Publisher Leslie Tunney. “It validates the talent and drive of a staff that works so hard each month to deliver readers an outstanding product.
