New York Times bestselling author, Emily Giffin, delighted fans last Friday, August 3 with a signing at Saks Fifth Avenue St. Louis, located in Plaza Frontenac. Giffin, author of the blockbuster hit, Something Borrowed, visited St. Louis for the debut of her sixth novel, Where We Belong.
The event, in partnership with HavenHouse St. Louis, included a refreshment reception and a Q&A interview with KTRS’s McGraw Millhaven. With a $15 suggested donation to HavenHouse St. Louis, guests were also able to ask Giffin questions about her newest novel, a story of two women, joined by the past, whose reunion results in self-discovery. Deb Peterson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch introduced Millhaven and Giffin for a Q&A.
“I’m excited for you all to read the book and catch all the St. Louis references,” Giffin told the crowd with a big smile. Giffin explained that she chose to make one of her main characters from St. Louis, rather than from Chicago. “She goes to Bishop DuBourg [high school]. It felt right. And Kirby is my first real high school character that I have ever written. I feel a connection to her – she’s my favorite character since Darcy and Ethan.”
Giffin shared more about Where We Belong, including the novel’s central issue, adoption. “[Adoption] has always fascinated me. So many scenarios can occur from the situation.”
Giffin’s Where We Belong is available now in bookstores. 10% of the evening’s book sales were donated to HavenHouse St. Louis. Executive director of HavenHouse St. Louis, Kathy Sindel, offered a few words of thanks for gests’ donations to the charity, whose mission is to provide comfort and support for families in serious need of medical care.
