Wings soared high at Queeny Park in the heart of beautiful West County yesterday evening, August 23, when 18 restaurants came together to battle for the title of best chicken wings and to benefit the United Cerebral Palsy Heartland at the 2nd annual Wing Ding.
The participating restaurants included The Beerhouse, Big Bear Grill, The Corner Pub and Grill, Culpeppers, d. Dooley’s 026 Grill, Edge Wild, 11 Mile House, Fallon’s Bar and Grill, Grand Slam Sports Bar and Grill, Ferguson Brewing Company, Hwy 61 Roadhouse, Joe Buck's, Market Pub House, Stadium Sports Bar and Grill, twinOak Wood Fired Fare, St. Louis Wing Co., Three Kings Public House, and Weber’s Front Row.
The good crowd of chicken wing enthusiasts devoured thousands of saucy chicken wings from the local restaurants. Wing Ding guests also enjoyed drinks to clear their pallets provided by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and Budweiser.
While all the restaurants’ wings had a taste and flavor all their own, only a couple were given the top titles. Ferguson Brewing Company’s Sweet Habanero Wing was crowned “Best of the Best” by the panel of celebrity judges which included SLM dining editor George Mahe, President and CEO of United Cerebral Palsy Heartland Rick Forkosh, and a handful of TV and radio personalities, bloggers, notables, and food VIP's. The "King of the Wings" People’s Choice winner was St. Louis Wing Co. Many of the attendees enjoyed sparring with the celebrity panel of judges; the hot topic of conversation was the hot hot wings competition!
The funds raised will support United Cerebral Palsy Heartland’s programs and services for children and adults with disabilities as well as their families.
