It’s time again for beer and pet lovers to unite.
For the second year in row, Purina and Urban Chestnut Brewing Co. (UCBC) are teaming up to promote pet adoptions over the summer. UCBC will sell special packs of its Urban Underdog American Lager, and for every marked eight-pack sold from now until the end of July, Purina will donate $5 to the Petfinder Foundation. The donations will help provide $25 subsidies to cover pet adoption fees at participating shelters for anyone looking for a new four-legged friend between June 1 and August 31.
The special eight-packs also feature the character Urban Underdog and its sidekick, Undercat.
Purina will donate up to $100,000 during the #ConsiderAShelterPet campaign. Last year, the company donated nearly $50,000 in adoption-fee subsidies.
Along with Purina and UCBC, the shelters will join in the fun as well. Anyone who adopts a pet at participating shelters during the campaign will receive a certificate redeemable at Urban Chestnut's Grove location (4465 Manchester) for a free swag pack.
Along with the special cans, UCBC and Purina will also host Dog Day Fridays. On select Fridays throughout the summer, the east lawn of the Urban Chestnut Grove location will become a pet-friendly party. The events, which will run from 4:30 p.m. to dusk, will feature beer, hot food, live music, games, and pet-adoption opportunities. In addition, 20 percent of beer and food sales will be donated to the Petfinder Foundation.
“I consider this partnership a no-brainer,” said UCBC co-owner and co-founder David Wolfe in a statement. “Working with Purina to find homes for more shelter pets is a win for the pets, their owners, and our community.”
The special Urban Underdog American Lager eight-packs are available at local St. Louis, St. Charles, and Metro East retailers.
