The purchase of a specially marked eight-pack of Urban Underdog American Lager has a deeper meaning this month. Through a partnership between Urban Chestnut Brewery Co. and Purina, with every pack sold, Purina will donate $5 to the PetFinder Foundation to "help local shelter pets and the organizations that serve them." The companies hope to raise $50,000 to be shared among 24 animal shelters in the St. Louis area.
The eight-packs of 16-ounce aluminum cans are available at grocery stores and beer retailers in St. Louis city, St. Louis and St. Charles counties, and the Metro East. The Urban Underdog American Lager is considered the standout beer for the brewery, which is known for creating European beers and American craft beers.
The beer's packaging that depicts the Urban Underdog character and his cat sidekick, Undercat, relates to the partnership's message. "You don't need to wear a cape or be able to fly to be a superhero for shelter pets," Purina's Kim Beardslee said in a release.
This partnership is the third consecutive year that Purina and Urban Chestnut have collaborated in a charity effort. "The bond between people and pets is like nothing else, and we hope this program helps create more connections in our community," Urban Chestnut co-owner/co-founder David Wolf said in the release.
"As an animal lover and pet parent of two rescue dogs, I know how much this partnership means to me and our team," Wolf said. "Purina does so much for the people and pets in our shared hometown of St. Louis, and we're thrilled to continue this partnership."
