Off the Wall Burgers
When in-person dining was suspended in St. Louis County, the team at Mission Taco Joint reacted by rolling out a burgers, dogs, and cheesesteak concept that had been in the planning stages for months. This week, Adam and Jason Tilford launched Off The Wall Burgers, offering a limited favorites menu that runs concurrently with Mission’s Mexican-inspired menu. The headliner is the Boardwalk Burger (available as a single, double, or triple), with toppers including peppered candied bacon, crispy habanero onions, chili, jalapeños, and roasted green chile strips. Other options include a Coney Island Dog, Boardwalk Corn Dog, a twice-spiced fried chicken sandwich, and a cheesesteak served with cheese whiz on a steamed hoagie. Service at the Kirkwood location is currently carryout and curbside pickup only. (Limited dine-in service, carryout, and delivery is available at the remaining locations.) When chef Logan Ely opened The Lucky Accomplice earlier this fall, he temporarily closed his award-winning inaugural restaurant, SHIFT (formerly known as Savage) for the winter. To add some interest to the holidays, Ely decided to do a SHIFT pop-up/takeover at The Lucky Accomplice on two nights and two eves next month: December 23–24 and 30–31. Guests will be treated to several courses of SHIFT-style fare. “We never used meat at Savage, so I'm excited to cook some really nice pigeons or pork,” Ely says of the menu. “There will also be seafood and caviar if I can find something sustainable.” There will be two seatings each night, at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $125 per person, with an optional $75 wine or drink pairing (a la carte beverages will be available as well). Incomplete Masking Requests
To the many restaurants that claim to be doing all they possibly can to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, there is one more thing that most can still do. If you believe that masks work in stopping the spread of viral particles (and most scientists agree they do), why not suggest that patrons don their masks when a staffer approaches the table? On the patio at Olive + Oak, for instance, standup tabletop placards say, “To ensure the safety of you and our team, we ask that you wear a mask over your nose and mouth when not seated at your table + when interacting with our team. THANK YOU for your cooperation.” During a recent visit, the team made sure that guests complied. Every time our server wanted to pay a visit, he would do a slow, meandering approach and announce, “Coming in!” giving us adequate time to mask up.
