INSIDER TIP
Wine Down Wednesdays...and More
Every Wednesday at Oliva on the Hill, the event venue owned by Catering St. Louis, the pergola-covered courtyard becomes the locale for Wine Down Wednesdays, featuring limited (but premium) wines and beer. There’s also a small-plates menu created by renowned chef Lisa Slay, who cooks, plates, and occasionally serves items like seasonal flatbread, meatballs, and bruschetta with grilled summer vegetables and balsamic. When the weather disagrees (and all through the winter months), the action moves indoors. Guests can also browse recently opened The Hill Antique Market, located in the same building. (Sneak announcement: Oliva will open for lunch in September, Tue-Sat.) 4915 Daggett, 314-961-7588.

HOT SPOTS
Yappy Hour at The Chase Club
One of the city’s best patios is now welcoming four-legged, furry companions. The Chase Club has partnered with Tito’s Vodka to sponsor “Yappy Hour” on August 22 and September 5 from 4–7 p.m. Your pooch can enjoy toys and treats while indulging in punny half-price drink specials, such as the Golden Reliever, Stray-t Up, and Dog Days of Summer. A portion of the proceeds benefits Stray Rescue of St. Louis, and anyone who fills out an adoption application will receive 25 percent off their tab. 212 N. Kingshighway, 314-454-9000.

Unannounced Time Off
What’s the best way to get someone to tell others your restaurant is out of business when it’s not? Put a sign on the door that says the restaurant is closed for whatever—a vacation, a funeral, a maintenance issue—but don’t bother to post the news online or leave a voicemail on the house phone, where most people check for the latest information. If people see the interior lights off, an empty parking lot, and find nothing on social media, they’re likely to assume the worst.
