HOT SPOT
Cabin Fever Fervor
Out with the cold and in with the brew, or something like that. Every winter, Schlafly Beer embraces the season at the brewery’s Cabin Fever Festival, held at Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood. On Saturday, January 12, from noon–4 p.m., festival attendees can sample unlimited samples of more than 40 beer styles, including Ibex Variant I and the brewery’s rarest beer of the year, Variant II. Also on tap: fan favorite Double Bean Blonde, as well as Irish Coffee Stout and NEIPA. Local bands will be on hand, and food will be available for purchase. The $35 tickets tend to sell out quickly, so consider purchasing in advance. 7260 Southwest, 314-241-2337.
INSIDER TIP
It’s Girl Scout Cookie time
January 5 is the official launch of Girl Scout Cookie season. Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri is the sixth largest council in the nation and first in market share, with 21 percent of girls in eastern Missouri being Girl Scouts. Last year, more than 2.7 million boxes of cookies were sold locally—an average of 135 packages per girl. This year, consider donating to the Troop to Troop program, in which customers purchase cookies for members of the U.S. armed forces.
MICRORANT
Menus, Please
If a restaurant has several menus, all except the dessert menu should be presented at the same time upon seating. There are times when a diner wants a cocktail, a beer, or a glass or bottle of wine, and times when ordering food quickly is the prime directive. Forgetting to place a menu can waste valuable time—and cost the restaurant a valuable sale.
