INSIDER TIP
Strange Donuts rolls on
Owner Jason Bockman has announced that Strange Donuts will open its third metro area store later this summer at 11477 Olive, in the same Creve Coeur center as Qui Tran’s popular Nudo House. The new location, a former Jamba Juice, will have 16 seats, plus an expanded menu and full coffee shop featuring a local roaster. Bockman also said to expect two more local, company-owned St. Louis stores in 2018, plus franchised stores in the Midwest and beyond. Strange Donuts’ first franchise store opened in Mexico City last year and more are planned.

Food trucks get rolling
Wok and Roll (Asian-inspired cuisine, from pot stickers to Thai coconut chicken soup) and Truck Norris (comfort and classic food, such as tater tot-based nachos and Buffalo chicken egg rolls). Coming down the pike are Dante’s Dulce (Mexican desserts, including flan and cookies made with mazapan, a Mexican peanut candy) and a truck from Vero Pizza & Pasta (panini, salads, and Katie Collier’s DIY gourmet meal kits). The first significant food truck meet-up of the season is the Food Truck Feast, held at 4 Hands Brewing Co. on April 14 from noon–5 p.m. More than 10 trucks (including Truck Norris) will participate. 1220 S. Eighth, 314-436-1559.
MICRORANT
Forced to filch rolled-up flatware
It’s such a simple thing, really, and a detail often overlooked: A server or food runner sets down a table’s entrées and then takes off like the building is on fire. There’s nothing more frustrating than staring at a steaming hot plate of food and not being able to have at it. By our calculations, it takes less than five seconds to assess whether any additional serviceware is required. We feel like schmucks sneaking forks off a vacant table, so please save us the embarrassment.
