Schlafly Beer at Fever Pitch
If cabin fever hasn’t hit you yet, it will. Schlafly Bottleworks has the antidote: its annual Cabin Fever winter beer festival, which is likely to rouse around 1,000 beer enthusiasts from their lairs. The outdoor event, January 14 from noon–4 p.m., features 40 Schalfly beers (seasonals, year-rounds, and robust winter warmers), as well as fire pits, ice sculptures, live music, and an ice cask bar. Food will be available for purchase outside, and the full menu will be available inside Bottleworks. Tickets are $30 in advance ($35 at the door) and include a commemorative glass and unlimited 3-ounce beer samples. Purchase tickets and check out the full list of beers . 7260 Southwest, 314-214-2337.
INSIDER TIP
Salt & Pepper Grinders at The Slider House
When we see salt and pepper mills on tables at restaurants like The Slider House, we know the proprietor is paying attention to the details. Milled spices are clearly superior to “shaken” ones, and we appreciate the extra effort. Even though the amenity comes at a cost, it contributes to the overall experience, which is how customers evaluate restaurants these days. (Note: The Slider House will be closed for a few days in early February to install a bigger hood and a second grill, which will increase efficiency and allow for a broader menu mix.) 9528 Manchester, 314-942-6445.

Checks Dropped on Dirty Tables
This one’s for you, servers, bussers, and floor managers: If soiled plates can't get cleared before the check is requested (which they should always be), can they at least be cleared at the same time that the check is dropped, especially considering gratuities are often affected by such action (or inaction)?
