HOT SPOT
Kingside Diner's new menu
The beloved Central West End diner is freshening up its menu. But fear not: Kingside Diner chef Eric Prophete and general manager DJ Holmes haven’t touched fan favorites like the Kingside Slinger and biscuits and gravy. They’ve instead added leaner options such as three different grain bowls made with either steamed white or brown rice or quinoa. Also new is a dish dubbed the Damn Delicious, two scrambled eggs and bacon on a croissant smothered with sausage gravy. The new items have “already been a huge success,” says owner Aaron Teitelbaum.
CANDY CLOSURE
Rocket Fizz closes in the Loop
The St. Louis outpost of Rocket Fizz, located in the Delmar Loop, announced it closed its doors on February 27. The retro-style candy store, which opened in 2014, once housed 500-plus varieties of soda pop and more than 100 types of candy (including lollipops and saltwater taffy). It also offered fun novelty and gag gifts. On Facebook, Rocket Fizz owners thanked their staff and loyal customers. “Today the difficult decision was made for our Rocket Fizz to cease operations,” they wrote, adding, “This is not goodbye…this is we hope to see you again soon.”
