$1 Oysters at DeMun Oyster Bar
It’s not hard to find oysters for a buck a pop at happy hour every now and then, but it’s rare to find them available all day long at that price. For the next several months, DeMun Oyster Bar is offering a specific Chesapeake Bay oyster from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday through Friday for $1 apiece. The Rappahannock River oyster is one of the least salty varieties on the East Coast and is prized for its sweet, buttery, full-bodied flavor. The price is pretty sweet as well. 740 DeMun, 314-725-0322.
INSIDER TIP
A Brasserie Kolache?
It’s common knowledge that Brasserie by Niche sells one of the finest cheeseburgers in town. St. Louis Kolache owner Russ Clark—who’s already collaborated with Pappy’s, Gioia’s, and Byrd & Barrel to create specialty kolaches—has done it again. The Brasserie Cheeseburger kolache (made with Brasserie’s custom ground beef, house-made pickles, Dijonnaise, and Kraft American cheese) will be available Monday through Sunday (1/30-2/5) at both locations of St. Louis Kolache and at Brasserie’s happy hour from 5–7 p.m Monday through Friday (1/30-2/3).

Cheap Bread in Nice Restaurants
While we find it unfortunate that fine dining is on the wane, what really burns our toast is why a respectable restaurant would serve its customers anything but equally respectable bread, as it’s one of the hallmarks by which a restaurant is judged. Any time entrées are priced north of $30, diners deserve something better than doughy, spongy bread with an indiscernible crust and nonexistent chew, like something found on a grocery store aisle. Give us better bread, and we’ll give you a pass on the foil-wrapped butter pats.
